December 24, 2023 – The Mystery of Christmas

What is Christmas? Christmas is a creation story steeped in mystery. But the birth of the baby Jesus shrinks this story and prevents us from focusing on mystery itself. We will try to fathom what mystery really is, and why it is important in life. For the Indigenous Peoples, mystery is part and parcel of their life. It gives them a sense of who they are and helps them fine tune their purpose. But for many Westerners, we live with little sense of mystery, and therefore many of us experience a diminished sense of purpose. Albert Einstein and Rabbi Heschel spoke volumes about mystery; we will let their words flow into us as we celebrate the mystery of Christmas. And we’ll sing anew, the old Christmas carols!  Andy LePage, Ph.D. will be the Service Leader.

May 8, 2022 – The Courage to Teach, The Courage to be a Mother, and The Courage to Be Imperfect
Our theme for May is courage. Andy LePage describes the presentation: “Sunday’s talk  centers on Courage: The Courage to Teach, the Courage to be a Mother, and the Courage to Be Imperfect — which is the Courage needed to Let Go. I want to explore what courage is and how it is expressed. I want to anchor it in an *apophthegm that I created: “Courage is a soft strength that is always there, that becomes a tough strength when used!” (*Look this up in your Funk and Wagnalls!)”

Quote:  Andy LePage, PhD.

March 6, 2022 – Living with Grace
Dr. Andy LePage:  What is grace? It’s a courteous goodwill, not asked for, not deserved, but freely given. Inherent in grace is the knowledge that one is receiving love, bringing it into our inner self, and sharing it in a “grace filled” and “graceful” way with others. Grace is a gift which can’t be earned; it is free and abundant and grows when you give it away. We might say grace is a positive feedback loop!  Photo:  gaychristian101.com

June Theme – Soul

June 27, 2021 – Until Love Wins – UUA General Assembly
Rev. Karen Hutt and Rev. Jen Crow, First Universalist Church of Minneapolis

Recognizing the importance of shared ministry and the many innovative approaches to worship created by congregations during the pandemic, UUA President, Rev. Dr. Susan Frederick Gray, selected the First Universalist Church of Minneapolis to serve as worship leaders for this year’s GA Sunday Morning Service. Music will be offered through collaboration with 2021 GA Choir Director Susan Mashiyama, the GA virtual choir, and musicians from First Universalist.
First Universalist has been on the front lines in support of the Movement for Black Lives in Minneapolis, bringing spiritual care and moral leadership in the wake of George Floyd’s murder by police and the important uprisings for justice that followed. Children and families are a vital part of their ministry, and they have been using creative approaches to engage all ages in worship during the pandemic. Their leadership exemplifies some of the best practices for the creativity, spiritual depth, and moral leadership that is possible when we embrace the work of shared ministry rooted in love and justice.
Last year more than 10,000 screens tuned in to the watch the Sunday Morning Worship at GA!  Please join us again this year on Sunday, June 27, 2021 for the largest annual gathering of Unitarian Universalists in worship.
